Uniformed Organisations

The church is home to the 15th Macclesfield (URC) Sea Scout Group which enjoys the honour of being Royal Naval recognised. We run a full range of Sections for children and young people with each Section following the appropriate Scout programme for the age. All Sections are open to both boys and girls.

A typical evening’s programme will include games and badge work, often involving craft work or a quiz for the younger groups and an activity such as map reading or pioneering for the Scouts. Full details of the Sections are given below.

All meetings are in the Townley Street Hall, with the exception of the Summer Term when the Scouts and Explorers meet at Redesmere Sailing Club from 6-30 pm for sailing and kayaking. We generally follow school term dates, including half terms.

We have traditionally held a Scout Summer Camp at a water based location such as Coniston or Lake Bala to allow the Scouts to develop their sailing and kayaking skills and have also enjoyed adventure camps locally. Beavers and Cubs have enjoyed one or two night camps, often indoors. From the age of 12 Scouts also have the opportunity to take part in camps run by the Royal Navy at HMS Bristol.
Our Scouts have also taken part in the Macclesfield and Cheshire hikes.

We are involved in various community activities, including supporting the church’s fundraising for Moldova, helping with the Round Table’s Santa Run in December and singing carols at Mount Hall Old Peoples home in Bollington. We also take part in town based activities such as the Remembrance Day parade and Mayor’s civic service.

We have a website https://sites.google.com/view/maccseascoutshome/home but most of our communication with parents is via a closed Facebook site which is for parents only for safeguarding reasons.
